OMV Discovered Oil in Barents Well

The OMV AG has seen oil in two poor quality reservoirs in the Wisting Alternative well 7324/7-1S on PL537. The discovery can supply important clues about the region geology.

The Leiv Eiriksson semisubmersible was adopted to drill the well to reach 2,452 m depth in 413 m deep water.

The well was estimated not to be the main oil discovery at Wisting Central. But there was oil discovered in the deeper Kobbe and Snadd formations.

OMV has carried out a series of activity to collect data and sample. But the well will be blocked, no longer in use. The discovery team will move to the Wisting Central discovery and make a better understanding of the area geology.

The holder of the PL537 is that the OMV respectively taking 25% interests. Tullow, Idemitsu, and Petoro respectively take 20%. The remaining is to Statoil. According to the professional’s word, the well is a wildcat well where the geology in the Barents Sea could come into light.

The material Wisting Central oil field, with the same license of the Wisting Alternative was discovered in September this year. It will be estimated in 2014. The Mantra well, one of the high impacts well in OMV program, will be drilled in November.
